Sviyazhsk Island
“An island on the sea lies, a hail on the island stands...” - As if from the pages of Pushkin's fairy tales, out of nothingness, by the will of the Terrible Tsar Ivan, a whole city grew on a wild island in one month!
Sviyazhsk is a fortress city built by order of the Russian Tsar Ivan the Terrible for the conquest of Kazan in the XVI century. It is located 60 km from Kazan, in a picturesque place where two rivers merge: the huge Volga and the small Sviyaga. The appearance of the island, which you will get acquainted with on the walking tour, has remained practically unchanged.
You will learn the fantastic history of Sviyazhsk city origin, having gone with us to this unique historical and architectural object.
